My role in your end of life

As a death doula, my role in your or your loved one’s end of life is one of companionship and emotional and spiritual support.

A death doula can have many roles, ranging from practical to personal. In my practice, I focus on preparing the soul for its departure. I do this by starting on the surface with conversation and touch. I am certified in NTD (nurturing touch for the dying). This is a gentle massage technique that can be done fully clothed, either sitting up or lying down. Gradually I will work my way into my client’s energy field; clearing energetic debris and blockages so that their transition is a smooth one. I can work all the way up to their passing and beyond. If needed, I offer spirit reiki and psychopomp services.

We greatly benefitted from Lindsay’s ability assess and guide my mother which seemed reduce apprehension and fear.

FAQ

Why is touch so important? Touch is a fundamental human sense that plays a crucial role in our physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. It fosters a sense of connection, comfort, and security, whether it's through a gentle hug, a reassuring pat on the back, or the warmth of holding hands. Touch communicates empathy, understanding, and support, creating bonds and strengthening relationships. It has the power to reduce stress, alleviate pain, and promote relaxation by triggering the release of oxytocin and other feel-good hormones in the body. Furthermore, touch is vital for healthy development, especially in infants and children, as it contributes to cognitive, emotional, and social growth. In essence, touch is not only a means of physical interaction but also a language of intimacy and compassion that enriches our lives in profound ways. This is especially important at the end of our lives when we are in a more vulnerable state.

What is energy work, and why is it important at the end of life? In an energy work/ reiki session, the practitioner is working with your energy field; your aura and your chakras, which are potent energy centers in the body. When you pass away, your energy body releases from your physical body. An energy worker can help to release stuck energy in the body so that the soul of the person can have an easier time exiting the physical. This works on a mental, emotional, and physical level, making for a smoother process all together.

What is spirit reiki? Spirit reiki is similar to reiki on a living person, but is done on a spirit. Spirits can still have “stuck” energy, and a skilled Reiki practitioner can assist the spirit in healing these stuck spots.

What is a psychopomp? The term "psychopomp" originates from the Greek words "psyche," meaning soul, and "pompos," meaning guide or conductor. A psychopomp is a being who guides spirits to the afterlife. If there is a traumatic death, resistance in death, or if the spirit feels there is “unfinished business” to be handled post death, their energy can be trapped in a powerless state in a realm between earth and the afterlife. A psychopomp provides guidance, protection, and assistance to souls during their journey from life to death.
